Where is bleak falls barrow in skyrim on map

It is home to several bandits , skeevers , draugrs and a Wounded Frostbite Spider. There is one pillar puzzle which opens a trapped gate behind which is a copy of the skillbook " Thief ". The thief who stole the Golden Claw , Arvel the Swift , is also within, trapped in a web.

In the room with the pillar puzzle, there are three stone tables one of which has fallen. From left to right, they read Snake , Snake , Whale , indicating that the same order should be used on the pillar along the left wall if you are facing the locked gate. This area contains likely the first of Dragon claw door puzzles to be encountered in the game as well as likely the first word wall , containing the one of the words of power from the shout Unrelenting Force.

As soon as the Dragonborn reads the word wall, a levelled draugr erupts from his sarcophagus which is carrying the Dragonstone.

Inspect the Golden claw. Select the Bear glyph for the outer ring, the Moth glyph for the middle ring, and the Owl glyph for the inner ring, then insert the claw into the keyhole in the center. Once you kill it, loot it for its venom, and find several other grisly items to search in the room, including four dessicated corpses , three web sacs, and three egg sacs.

Proceed to cut down Arvel, who will ungratefully rush off further into the dungeon. However, if you are quick enough, you can optionally kill Arvel before he escapes. Chasing after Arvel to the west, you will pass through an embalming room with three urns , four burial urns, and a soul gem, then enter catacombs with corpses lining the walls. You can loot any corpses that aren't skeletal.

As you reach the bottom of the ramp, however, you'll see one of the corpses known as draugr rise from the dead and prepare to attack you, and may see or hear others doing the same.

Note that only draugr in armor male or tattered clothes female will reanimate; corpses still in wraps or naked are "permanently dead".

Thus, if you're careful and observant, you'll be able to tell whether a draugr is going to attack you before they wake up.

After the battle, you will find Arvel's corpse on the ground. If he avoided being killed by a draugr, then he will die after activating a pressure plate on the ground, triggering the spike wall trap on your right.

Search his corpse to recover the golden claw and read his journal , which will provide a crucial clue for an obstacle you will encounter later on. Step around the plate or behind the gate, and continue down the hallway to the north.

Your quest journal now tells you to find the secret of Bleak Falls Barrow. Straight ahead is another sleeping draugr, and after him to the east is a room where three more draugr will reanimate and come for you. Although they're fairly weak, they can be dangerous if you're lightly armored and get surrounded. If you're careful, you can wake them one at a time and deal with them individually. A short collapsed staircase on the eastern side of the room to the right leads to an apprentice-locked chest.

On the left is a swinging blade trap , which you can't do anything about from this side. Timing a sprint through the trap will leave you unscathed. You can then pull the chain on your left to deactivate the trap, allowing you to hear better and escape into the previous areas if needed.

Proceed through the winding passages, dealing with the "resting" draugr as you go. At one point, you may notice a prismatic sheen on the floor; this is an oil slick trap.

The tunnel will eventually open to the east into a large, well-lit cavern with a waterfall. As you enter, a draugr will burst out of a sarcophagus in the opposite corner, but you can easily take it out with ranged attacks before it reaches you. The way ahead is blocked, so after looting the chest to the right of the sarcophagus, head to the gate the stream drains through, then pull the chain beside it to raise the gate and continue to the south downstream.

Where the cave turns to the east, you will find a lootable skeleton, two pickaxes, and an iron ore vein on the ground. The exterior of the ruin is very impressive with its stone arches, and only a few other ruins, such as Ragnvald and Skuldafn , also have such impressive exteriors. The structures can even be seen from the map. This is an underground-style dungeon rather than the normal ancient Nord style of dungeon.

There is also an inner section, Bleak Falls Sanctum , which is blocked by a Nordic puzzle door that only the Golden Claw can open, after the puzzle is solved. The answer to the puzzle is on the palm of the claw.

During the course of the main quest, Balgruuf the Greater will ask the Dragonborn to assist his court wizard Farengar Secret-Fire with his research into dragons. He wants the Dragonstone , an ancient tablet with a map of Dragon Burial Mounds , retrieved from Bleak Falls Barrow the first ancient Nordic ruin to be discovered in the main questline.

Lucan Valerius , in the Riverwood Trader , may ask the Dragonborn to go to Bleak Falls Barrow and retrieve his Golden Claw, which was stolen by bandits, in return for some gold from an incoming delivery. Play the story up until you get to Dragonreach in Whiterun, and the Jarl and Mage will direct you to the nearby Bleak Falls Barrow ruins. To get there, travel to Riverwood remember that you can select previously visited locations on your map to fast travel there , then leave going north along the path, but instead of going towards Whiterun, take a left at the junction and up the mountain.

Be wary of wolves and bandits on the way up, and at the end of the path is the Temple. Take out some more bandits, then climb the steps to the right and enter Bleak Falls Temple.

Just inside, run through the cavern and encounter the two bandits by the fire. By hearing their conversation, it'll trigger the Golden Claw quest. In the event you miss this, or you want to pick it up and run the dungeon outside the main story we say kill two birds with one stone, but up to you! Enquire about it to start the quest. After the opening camp fire, follow the tunnels until you reach a room with a lone Bandit, a lever and a series of rotatable stones with adorned with symbols on the left.

Don't pull the lever, lest you want a shower of arrows in the face, and turn the stones on the right to whatever matches the two high above at the far end of the room the middle stone is the one lying on the ground next to the lever.

The answer is Snake, Snake, Fish, which allows you to safely pull the lever, raise the gate and progress. Loot the goods on the table ahead and then go down the wooden staircase left, and follow the passage until you encounter a webbed over room on the left, which you can swipe apart so you can enter.

Defeat the spider - it's fairly easy to kill even at this early stage - and chat to Arvel, who will continue to Golden Claw quest. Regardless of what happens, Arvel will try and flee with the Golden Claw as soon as he's free, so cut him down and kill him to get the item - you'll need it to continue. Continue down the passage behind Arvel until you reach a room filled with Draugrs.

Defeat them, watch out for the pressure pad by the gate as you progress further, and following the next room is a passage with swinging blades to avoid. Simply step forward a few paces after each one goes until you reach the end. If you don't fancy fighting the Draugr, then you can always ignore them, run past the blades and they should follow you into their path - though if you have a Follower, then they could also do the same so they get through unhindered.

Either way, there's a switch to the right you can pull when you're through the other side that'll stop the blades from swinging further. Continue to a lit room with a waterfall and a Dragur that emerges from a coffin leaning against the far wall. Pull the chain next to the gate where the water flows to, and follow the water down until you can take a passage right.
